Redefining the use of space

IDEA

This kitchen renovation in Sotogrande transformed a tired, outdated space into a room that feels completely in tune with its surroundings. Set within a traditional Andalusian villa, the brief was not simply to modernise the kitchen, but to create one that genuinely belonged to the house.

From the outset, the intention was to preserve the villa’s character while elevating the way the space looked, felt and functioned. The result is a bespoke kitchen that balances craftsmanship, warmth and everyday practicality, with details carefully considered to bring elegance and cohesion to the heart of the home.

Concept and planning

DESIGN PROCESS

The design concept was anchored by one distinctive architectural feature already present in the property: the villa’s light blue painted wooden window frames. This became the starting point for the entire scheme, inspiring cabinetry finished in a tone equivalent to Farrow & Ball Olivato 402 satin. The result is a subtle visual dialogue between the kitchen and the wider house, helping the new space feel settled and authentic rather than imposed.

All doors and drawer fronts were crafted from natural solid oak, using a frame-on-frame construction with a 70 mm profile. Painted in the signature blue, they reinforce the villa’s traditional detailing while introducing a refined, tailored feel. Framed glazed display units were incorporated to lighten the composition and bring a sense of openness and elegance.

Bespoke layout and carefully integrated details

A custom kitchen island and a clearly defined cooking zone were designed to improve both functionality and flow, creating a layout that supports daily use while encouraging gathering around the space. The internal carcasses were finished in natural varnished oak veneer, with a matching plinth in the same material as the doors to ensure continuity throughout.

Lighting also played an important role in the overall atmosphere. Under-cabinet LED lighting and internal illumination within the display units add warmth, highlight materials and provide practical task lighting where needed.

Materials chosen for depth and balance

Large-format floor tiles supplied by APE Grupo were selected to complement the cabinetry palette and connect the kitchen to the villa’s traditional aesthetic, while still giving the space a more contemporary finish.

For the worktops, the choice was X-Tone Liem Dark by Porcelanosa, polished and finished with a 50 mm mitred edge and upstand. This darker surface introduces contrast and visual weight, grounding the paler cabinetry and adding a sophisticated, architectural presence to the room.

High-performance appliances with a discreet presence

The appliance specification was developed to support serious cooking without compromising the overall aesthetic. The cooking area features a modular Gaggenau hob with integrated extraction, paired with Siemens ovens and refrigeration. Together, they deliver performance, reliability and a clean visual integration within the bespoke design.

Finishing touches that elevate the whole kitchen

The hardware was selected to reinforce the crafted quality of the space. Armac Martin brass handles, sourced from the UK, bring warmth and refinement to every door and drawer, while Blum soft-close drawers and hinges ensure smooth everyday use.

Practicality was resolved through a series of discreet integrated features, including pull-out storage, cutlery organisation and matte black integrated plug sockets, allowing the kitchen to remain visually clean while fully equipped for modern living.

Implementation and finishing touches

REFORM PROCESS

As with every Kubic project, the kitchen was approached as a fully bespoke transformation, where design, materials and installation were considered as one complete whole. Every element was selected not only for its appearance, but for how it would contribute to the experience of living in the space day after day.

The finished kitchen now feels entirely at home within this Sotogrande villa: respectful of its Andalusian character, elevated in quality and resolved with the level of detail expected from a truly bespoke design.

The Result: A complete kitchen transformation that honours the architecture of the property while introducing a higher standard of comfort, function and craftsmanship. Timeless, elegant and deeply connected to its surroundings, this kitchen now feels like it was always meant to be there.
