Redefining the use of space
IDEA
This project involved the complete transformation of a 20-year-old villa in Casares, purchased recently by our clients but in need of a brighter, more modern layout. The original interior consisted of dark, compartmentalised rooms with dated finishes. Our clients approached Kubic Design Solutions to redesign the main living floor and convert the basement into a vibrant entertainment space that suited their lifestyle.
Concept and planning
DESIGN PROCESS
Our planning started with a clear brief: modernise the home, increase natural flow and create spaces that reflect the clients’ lifestyle. The design introduced cleaner sight lines, brighter materials and a contemporary ceiling and lighting scheme to elevate the main floor.
With design, manufacture and installation handled in-house, Kubic delivered a controlled, transparent process supported by visuals, clear communication and frequent progress updates. We removed the existing build and installations —including appliances, joinery, tiling, flooring, windows and previous services— as they did not align with the new design or the quality standards set for the project.
Open-Plan Living & Kitchen Reform
To modernise the villa and introduce more natural flow, our team removed several internal walls to create a spacious open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining area. The old beamed ceiling was replaced with a new recessed ceiling design, complete with ambient LED lighting to enhance the sense of space and add warmth throughout the main floor.
A fully customised kitchen was designed and manufactured in-house by Kubic, complemented by new flooring installed across the entire living area. The laundry / utility room was also redesigned for improved functionality and storage.
Basement Bar & Games Room Conversion
The villa’s basement originally served as an outdated office and bodega-style bar. Kubic re-imagined this area into a modern bar and games room, incorporating the vivid colours and bold finishes requested by the clients. This space now serves as a lively extension of the home, perfect for hosting guests and creating a fun social environment.
A Villa Connected to its Surroundings
Situated in the hills of Casares, the property offers panoramic views across the Mediterranean Sea, Gibraltar and Morocco. The redesigned interior was created to complement these views, introducing more open sight lines, brighter materials and a modern aesthetic consistent with the home’s new identity.
Implementation and finishing touches
REFORM PROCESS
Kubic Design Solutions managed the full process, including layout redesign, ceiling works, lighting design, bespoke carpentry manufacture and complete installation. The clients were involved throughout the process with clear communication, regular updates and detailed visuals before any onsite work began.
